Prototype Box Replica Update

Posted by StromNova at 10:31 PM on December 11, 2009

Hello Everyone,

So, I got material thickness, dimensions, tooling, routing and assembly pretty much analyzed and parts selected.  All I need now is the money to buy the proto-wood.

One thing I would like to mention, however.  Engraving the details on the top and sides is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT, and painful on the hands, to be honest.  Which leads to my next question:

Who wants me to try doing the engraving of the pattern on the top and sides?  Post here, please...

I would really love to see a close replica with the engraving, but please don't strain yourself too much over it and take your time.

If engraving turns out to be not feasible at all, I am willing to take any plain wooden box as long as it comes with the Lilium tune.

As big of a pain in the butt as it is they are a important part of the design, maybe for the prototype just pen or marker them in?

I think that you should have the option for those who would like to buy it. Up the prices for those who want the engraving and a further due date than without the engraving since it will take more time. I, personally, want the box without the engraving. The tune out of the music box means more to me than the appearance of the box.

I have to agree with Spartindragon208, it would look far more beautiful with the extra details, but don't go at it all in one go. I've done some woodworking myself, and rushing does nothing but cause physical pain and shoddy workmanship. Even if you were only to get a very small amount done over time, it only means you've been careful and detailed. The more time spent on it would (hopefully) mean better craftsmanship and less harm.

As long as the box exists, I really don't care if it looks exactly the same or not O.o although that'd be quite neat.

Just don't strain yourself, and your hand.

Truthfully I think it would look a lot neater like that. And if you do end up doing it just do it slowly. Don't do to much at a time. Let your hands take a break ever once in a while. At least that is what I would do. I don't really know how to engrave things, but that is what I would suggest. I would like it with all the detail like from the anime/manga.
