This is a response to some posts in this thread....

Hey StromNova you said the one on the far left is a similar grain to the one they think of using? I will post some pictures of the Anime box, it was very reddish in color, very similar to the grain in the second box here

Here is a good shot of the front

Here is a excellent shot of the back and side of the box

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r310/XionComrade/LiliumBoxRear.jpg

And here is the best overall shot, the box is open and it is looking down on it at a angle that shows the front

Its got a very dark redish tint to it, a brighter red cloth lining inside(most do), and not much in terms of fancy designs on the surface of it, its nice

Personally I think that out of the two parts, the box and the mechanism, that the box is much more important here in terms of details, you can get a 30 note lilium mechanism, you cannot get a Elfen Lied box for it though anywhere! They don't make boxes that look like that! You can change the mechanisms in the box anytime too, so if you had a 23 noter, you could upgrade the music mechanism anytime you like, but the box is one of a kind!

Yeah with some heft modifications the picture in the middle would be 100%, the other two don't stand a chance though. Hafta get rid of that knob on the front of it first off!

XionComrade:  You hit it right on the head.  Getting a music box replica has been quite difficult thus far, especially getting one EXACTLY like what we know and love.  This has been my challenge recently, Sankyo's version just isn't up to par, so I am still struggling with finding one.  I am sorry for these not coming quicker :X

*Hugs Strom* Im sorry I didn't mean to hit you! I was just flailing wildly, I SWEAR D:!!!! lol

Lol this isn't and should never all be on you Strom We are all in this together! We all want these things and I am sure most of the 200 people on here will be very happy to help, I know I will be!!! Your doing good Strom!

Sankyo is close, they really are, the red box (#2) isn't terribly far off, surely for the right price they would be able to make the adjustments and give us a perfect Elfen Lied replica, I mean think of all the publicity it would bring them to pull it off! Not only the 200 people on this site, but the tens of thousands that have voted Elfen Lied the 6th most popular anime of all time! The entire fanbase would want a box, and their name would be on it! Certainly I had never heard of "Sankyo" before this project

Let us not settle for anything less than what we want, and let us not compromise anything We can do it

Tomorrow I will sit down and calculate the dimensions of the box, to get a idea of what we are looking at. Most of the pictures of the box are of Lucy holding it, and she was pretty tall in the Anime, taller than Kouta. Does 5'9 sound like a good example? I will use measurements of a normal 5'9 person's hand to measure the box if we all agree on that height!

I am 5'11, and from the tip of my middle finger to where my wrist meets the bottom of my hand is exactly 7.5 inches, I imagine 5'9 to be around 7

Not alot of material to go around on the internet on hand size...So My guess is 7 inches for the length from Lucy's wrist to the tip of her middle finger at 5'9. Anyone else please feel free to chime in here on height estimates, or if you are 5'9 or whatever height gets mentioned tell us the length from the base of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger Ty!

Btw, 200 members! Heck yes keep em coming!

XionComrade:  I have been also slowly doing some calculations of my own, as I am building my own initial box.

If my first custom box comes out nice, I MIGHT CONSIDER designing and building the "Lilium" boxes myself, and custom-building them for whoever wants to buy a replica "Lilium" box, as we can't get Sankyo to make one close enough.

For me to make these boxes I need to know 3 things.

1).  People would be willing to buy them, and wouldn't be against me making a small profit off of them

2) They are "simple" and "quick" to build, as my free time is limited.

3).  People would be willing to wait for me to build and ship the boxes.

After my initial build, I'll let you know if this would be a feasible possibility

So strange that Sankyo won't cooperate with the boxes, you think it would be a peice of cake for them! Surely someone will...Thats so much trouble to make them yourselve though O.o Imagine doing 57 of those O.O!

I mean I can understand them not being able to modify the box dimensions, but sacraficing what is probably a few hundred sales because of the details of the box just seems ludicrous to me, the designs are not complex and their aren't even that many plates on the box O.o All minor modifications if you ask me

here are some sites I am surfing right now

ttp://www.musicboxesetc.com/cat_custom5.cfm

http://www.musicboxworld.com/

http://www.bettermusicboxes.com/default.asp

http://www.musicboxattic.com/corporategifts.html

Lol all kinds of weird eggs, miniature dressers and what not, but what seems like the standard that we are looking for is not their lol...

Would anyone mind if in the next few weeks, or this week even, I start getting some sites together and directing them here to see if anyone is up to the challenge?  Maybe even enquire some small ebay businesses about it? I mean its a idea to do it all yourself, but its such hard work Strom, and like you said, your are a busy person O.o It would be such a tremendous headache just to make them I would imagine, much less as many as the community would call for

I have some dimensions I would like to show

This first file is measurements based off of pictures of the box, they are the most accurate ones I have, it was done using some gadgets and gizmos on this computer, didn't even really have to round them off, but did have to guess on the Lid and Base measurements.

http://www.mediafire.com/?zzmttzln2yt

Working with the file above and Strom's estimates, I came up with this one, which would be what I think the actual size was rounded off to simple measurements.

FrontView

SideView

http://www.mediafire.com/?05wjkuudzjk

Here are Strom's estimates, I added the lid and base measurements...

http://www.mediafire.com/?05wjkuudzjk

Me and Strom were very close to one another I think, I threw in a few things...

I am thinking it was 8 inches long, 5 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide, and that the base and lid measurements were .75 inches each(Which is included in the height measurement to make it 5 inches.)

What do you all think Thats what ive got! When I get a great estimate I will make the base, which if you will notice is actually triangled in the pictures, and then I will add details to the drawings too

After it is all done, if we don't have anyone who will make the boxes for us, I will pass around the file to box makers until one is up to it Its such a simple design....Surely someone will do it!

XionComrade:  I am going to take into consideration these estimates when designing the "Lilium" box.  I will use measurements based off of actual dimensions of materials and hardware as well as yours to create a comprehensive file concerning the "Lilium" box.  I am proficient with CAD modelling, so I can draw up a 3-D model of a box and post images here.  After I get this done and get actual blueprints created (*.pdf style), I will post them as well.

I will be trying to find a box maker if Sankyo can't produce, so don't worry/bother with contacting box makers yet...we'll work on that when the time comes   The information was key, and necessary, so thank you for all of your hard work!  When I get home I will download your files and post them when I get the DIY page up.  Thank you!

Hi, just want to voice my support of your project, if you make a good replica box I will definitely be ordering one.  When you're a bit closer to availability, I hope you can get some coverage on ANN and some blogs, I just stumbled across your site completely by accident a few minutes ago.

I've been wanting to get a replica Lilium music box for ages now, and I know I'm not the only one.  Maybe you should invest some time to searching google for people looking for one of these and post a neatly-worded plug of your little project here.  Word would get around pretty quick I think.

Okay, so from what I get, Sanyko does not make those boxes?

So Stromnova, you say that you can find someone to make one?

I really like the box posted on the second photo by XionComrade and I definitely buy this, if it was avaiable.

Since I am a total loser in handicraft, I would rather cut my fingers off then to produce a simple box, just like you state

So...I really hope that there is a chance to get a box. When you make it and it looks like this, I buy it directly from you.

1) You can have the profit, it´s your artistic work, if you don´t surpass a certain quote I am willing to pay, but that is negotiable.

2) You can have all the time in the world, if you initialize this project.

3) Keep us updated.

Sincerely

Lucifer

the box i made might even be alittle big, but A.C. Moore has like 10 boxes that might work perfectly, and they have that red felt stuff with one side sticky, all you need to do is spray paint the box dark brown, put the felt in, make a small bock to put in the left side of it, then put the mech in it... thats what i did and am going to do when i get the mech.
